Simple card Thursday 01

Thursday 28 January 2016
This week I am starting a new series. Every Thursday I plan to post a simple card that you can make at home with instructions on how to make it. These cards will be quick and easy to make, great if you need to make a card fast or if you are a beginner. All cards should take 10 minutes or less to make depending on your experience at card making.

This week we start with a simple thinking of you card. Great to use as a sympathy card or to give to someone who is going through a hard time.

  1. Create you card base. I like to make my cards larger, so I cut a piece of white card 10"x7" and fold it in half to create a 5"x7" card.
  2. Stick your Thinking of you stamp from Lawn Fawns Sophie's sentiments onto an acrylic block.
  3. Stamp it on the bottom right hand corner of your card using jet black archival ink.
  4. Stamp your chosen butterfly from the MFT blissful butterflies above and to the left of the sentiment using Hero Arts soft pool ink.
  5. Smush your Hero Arts tide pool ink midtone ink pad onto a sheet of acetate/plastic packaging/laminated sheet of paper.
  6. Add a small amount of water to the ink. Don't go overboard. You don't want to dilute the colour but just make it runny enough to splash on your card.
  7. Using a small paint brush, dip it into the ink, hold it over your card and gently bang it on your finger to create small splashes on your card. The larger the brush you use, the larger the splashes.
  8. Let your card dry.
  9. Glue clear sequins to your card to add a small amount of sparkle to your card. Use a wet glue and put dots of glue on your card and place the sequin on top of the glue.
Note on inks

For this card I used Hero Arts Shadow Inks. They are a dye ink. Dye inks will stamp a little splotchy but dry really smooth. They soak into the paper as they dry and smooth out. Because of how smooth an image they produce they work well for stamps that have a large surface area like these butterflies.
